Fundraising Tips

2010 Easter Seals Superheroes did an outstanding job last year, raising a record breaking $1 million for Easter Seals across the country! Fundraising increased by 9% over the previous year.

So what was the secret to their success? Through our participant surveys, our Superheroes offered insights as to why they did so well. Some are tried and true tactics. Others…a little off the wall (so to speak).

• Start early. Send lots of emails and do follow up calls. Face to face requests are effective.
• Ask friends / family / coworkers / clients – everyone you know! Don’t forget your rich friends.
• Tell people you will jump off a building for money and that you’ll wear a superhero costume when you do. Let them know it’s for a great cause!
• Inquire about company or union matching.
• Put up Drop Zone posters at work.
• A personalized brochure with your ‘why’ statement.
• Create your own webpage or Facebook group and include funny pictures.
• Go after business owners.
• Pursue Rotary Clubs (‘Super Rotary Man’).
• Put on your costume and sell 50/50 tickets, do a carwash, bottle drive, steak night, golf tournament, card tournament, meat draw, garage and bake sales, odd jobs for co-workers and church-goers, etc.
• Form a team and get them excited about the event.
• Call back favours.

Do you have a Superhero Story?

Let us know about your own personal drop zone blog or webpage by emailing Cheryl at cmcnamara@easterseals.ca .

We will be sure to add to the site and let everyone know. If you have a picture or even a video be sure to share that with us too. Watching people rapel off a building never gets old.
