VICTORIA – $140,806 was raised for Easter Seals services on Vancouver Island yesterday at the 2010 Victoria Easter Seals Drop Zone! Celebrating its 5th year of encouraging locals to challenge themselves and change lives, the event has established a new fundraising high for the Victoria event.
Over 60 fundraising participants, sponsors and local media representatives experienced the adrenaline rush of rappelling down the 13-storey CIBC Building operated by Standard Life in downtown Victoria. “This event brought out the heart and commitment of the people on Vancouver Island in supporting children with disabilities,” says Stephen Miller, President and CEO of the BC Lions Society, “we couldn’t do it without their support.”
Our top five fundraisers were:
Fifth Place: Marty the Marmot from the Victoria Salmon Kings raising $2500
Fourth Place: Ian Hawey; a second year participant, raised $2570
Third Place: Edward Chow; a local Lions Club member, raised $2695
Second Place: Steven Ivacko; a local adventurer, raised $3180
First Place: Dave Ganong from Colliers International raising $6925
All funds raised during the Victoria Easter Seals Drop Zone, stay on the island and go towards Easter Seals Services on Vancouver Island. These services include Easter Seals House; a home away from home for children and their families who are traveling for medical treatment or diagnosis, and Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan; a fully subsidized and accessible camp for children with disabilities.
The Easter Seals Drop Zone is a National Event which is hoping to raise over 1 million dollars through Drop Zone events being held in 11 cities across Canada.
